Hanwha Ocean Selected as Preferred Bidder for Second Soyang-Class Fast Combat Support Ship

Indonesian Navy Places Order for Second Vessel

Singapore, May 16, 2023

Hanwha Ocean has been selected as the preferred bidder for the construction of the second vessel of the Soyang-class fast combat support ship (AOE) for the Indonesian Navy. The contract, valued at approximately US$450 million, is expected to be signed in the coming months.

The Soyang-class AOE is a highly capable naval auxiliary vessel designed to provide logistical support to naval fleets at sea. The vessel is equipped with a helicopter deck, a hangar, and a variety of cargo handling systems. It is also armed with a close-in weapon system for self-defense.

The first Soyang-class AOE, KRI Semarang, was commissioned into the Indonesian Navy in 2019. The vessel has since participated in a number of joint exercises with other navies in the region.

The Indonesian Navy's decision to order a second Soyang-class AOE underscores the importance it places on its naval support capabilities. The vessel will provide the navy with a much-needed boost to its ability to sustain operations at sea.
