As a fleet of drones formed the Olympic rings in the Parisian night sky, a metal horse galloped down the Seine River Friday delivering the Olympic flag during the opening ceremony of the Paris Games.

The horse which was ridden by a Gendarmerie officer, appeared from under the Pont Alexandre III and made its way down the river towards the Trocadéro.

The horse was followed by a flotilla of boats carrying the flags of the participating nations.

The appearance of the metal horse was one of the most striking moments of the ceremony, which was watched by an estimated 600 million people around the world.
